I just read that there are over 200 proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem!  We will start the week constructing two proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem and look at the converse of this theorem.  We will review how to work with square roots (this work is also visual).  Next we will apply this well used theorem in a number of ways, and familiarize ourselves with a few special right triangles.Core concepts and vocabulary:

  • The sides of a  – hypotenuse, and the two legs (in Trigonometry we call them adjacent and opposite).
  • What the Pythagorean Theorem really means.
  • The converse of the Pythagorean Theorem   – Pythagorean triple
  • Using the theorem to solve problems involving distance  Distance Formula
Here are some example of proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem

  3. These don’t really explain much to me, because as a class we haven’t done many of these togther. I think we need to go a little more in depth on the subject and actually see and hear you doing this a little bit more.

  7. Idon’t really get this. I think we need to work on pythagerons therom as a class instead of having us do this by ourselves. It needs to be explained to us before we can work on it with other teamates.

  9. i do not understand this. we need to take notes on this and do more work so i can fully understand this. because as of right now im completely lost.


  10. i think you should try to explain the work then give us the work sheets to do a couple of problems just to make sure that we understand it but of we dont understand it we should do examples on the bord then relate to it ,so that what i think that we should do
    . i think it would help us improve our leaning skills
